View from the studio towards the foothills of La Sierra Juarez. The wild "flores de muerto" on the land in front of the house bloom in October and November. They are used to decorate graves on
the Day of the Dead. Shortly after this photo was taken, many of these flowers were picked by a small group of women who had come from the village with braided hair and colorful aprons over their dresses.

 

 

     
   

The photo below shows the village of San Andrés Huayapam, as seen from the foothills above Jean's studio. A large yellow Colonial church marks the center of the village. The two reservoirs in the distance belong to the adjacent village of Tlalixtlac de Cabrera.
